Phoenix-based Banner Health has appointed a longtime health system leader to serve as CEO of multiple facilities in Arizona.

Dale Johns was named CEO of Banner Thunderbird Medical Center in Glendale, Banner Behavioral Health Hospital in Scottsdale and Banner MD Anderson Cancer Center facilities in Gilbert and Sun City, according to a March 20 health system news release.

Mr. Johns stepped into the role March 18. He brings 22 years of hospital leadership experience to the 595-bed Banner Thunderbird Medical Center, which is constructing a women’s and infant services tower, renovating its pediatric emergency room and adding surgical suites.

He succeeded Debbie Flores, who retired earlier in 2026 after more than 30 years of industry experience, including 18 years in progressive leadership roles at Banner.

Banner Health operates 33 hospitals and more than 450 additional care sites.
