Ballad Health creates new C-suite role

Johnson City, Tenn.-based Ballad Health has named Paula Masters, DrPH, its inaugural chief health disparities officer.

In the new role, Dr. Masters will lead the development and implementation of programs and services aimed at reducing health disparities, according to an April 15 LinkedIn post from the health system. The position aims to minimize inequities internally and externally, and will require collaboration with clinicians and community organizations throughout the Appalachian Highlands. 

Currently, Dr. Masters serves as a board and committee member of the Tennessee Hospital Association’s diversity and equity committee; Virginia Health Catalyst; the Tennessee Community Health Worker Association; the Tennessee American Cancer Society; and the Girl Scouts of the Southern Appalachians. She was previously president of the Tennessee Public Health Association, and spent several years working for state and local health departments.
