Avera taps hospital CEO

Victoria Hanson, PhD, has been appointed regional president and CEO of Avera Sacred Heart Hospital in Yankton, S.D., effective May 3.

She brings more than 20 years of healthcare experience and has served as vice chair of administration for the Southwest Minnesota Region of Mayo Clinic Health System since 2016, according to an April 8 health system news release. 

Dr. Hanson succeeds Doug Ekeren, who will retire in May after a 39-year healthcare career. He has led the region since 2014.

Sioux Falls, S.D.-based Avera Health operates 36 community and critical access hospitals. The Avera Sacred Heart region covers Southeast South Dakota and Northeast Nebraska.
