Here are six things to know:
1. Dr. Kapaska has served in his current roles since October 2010.
2. He oversees the 545-bed tertiary hospital, 14 community hospitals, more than 70 primary and specialty care clinics, long-term care facilities as well as fitness and sports centers.
3. During his time at the helm of the hospital, Dr. Kapaska was instrumental in establishing the Avera eCARE eICU as well as planning the development of the new Avera facility in Sioux Falls.
4. His previous roles at Avera McKennan include serving as CMO and senior vice president of medical affairs.
5. David Flicek, current chief administrative officer of Avera Medical Group, will succeed Dr. Kapaska, effective July 1.
6. Mr. Flicek will keep his current role at Avera Medical Group when he takes over at Avera McKennan.
