Kate Kellogg, MD, is joining St. Louis-based Ascension as vice president of patient safety after serving Columbia, Md.-based MedStar Health for nearly 13 years.
Dr. Kellogg announced the news in a Sept. 29 LinkedIn post. After completing her emergency medicine residency in 2014, Dr. Kellogg worked as a clinical safety scientist at MedStar Health’s National Center for Human Factors in Healthcare.
In 2017, she became associate medical director of the center before stepping into the assistant vice president of quality and safety role in 2019, according to her LinkedIn profile. Most recently, she has served MedStar as vice president of patient safety and infection prevention for nearly four years. She has also worked as an attending emergency physician at MedStar Washington (D.C.) Hospital Center since 2014.
Reflecting on her MedStar experience, she wrote, “What matters most is knowing the program’s strength was never any one person — it’s always been the team. I leave it in extraordinary hands, and I’ll be following the team’s work closely and looking forward to collaborating for years to come.
“Now I get to bring everything I’ve learned to Ascension, and to a team that shares the same conviction: that safety is something we design for, not just respond to,” Dr. Kellogg wrote. “I’ve always believed the goal is to do the proactive work well enough that far less reactive work is ever needed — and I could not be more excited for the chance to carry that forward.”
MedStar Health operates 10 hospitals and more than 300 care locations. Spanning 36 states, Ascension operates 91 wholly owned or consolidated hospitals, holds ownership interests in 27 additional hospitals, and runs more than 300 ambulatory surgery centers and various other care sites.
