Alan Vierling picked to lead Harris Health's LBJ Hospital: 3 things to know

Alan Vierling, DNP, MSN, BSN, RN, has been named executive vice president and administrator of Lyndon B. Johnson Hospital in Houston.

The 328-bed Level 3 trauma center is operated by Houston-based Harris Health System, and is a major medical teaching partner of The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston and The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center.

Here are three things to know about Dr. Vierling.

1. He takes over the administrator's position after filling it on an interim basis.

2. Dr. Vierling has been with Harris Health since 2014, most recently as senior vice president of organizational transformation. In this position, he was involved in reengineering activities "to streamline operations and processes to improve the high quality of evidence-based patient care," officials said.

3. He earned bachelor's and master's degrees in nursing from Radford (Va.) University, and a doctorate degree in nursing practice from Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Va.
