The committee will explore the country’s AI priorities and investments. It will be made up of officials from the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy, the National Science Foundation and the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency, as well as officials from the National Security Council, the Office of the Federal Chief Information Officer and the Office of Management and Budget.
The move comes as American technology companies face pressure to maintain a dominant spot in the AI market, amid China’s increasing AI advancements.
“The White House’s new artificial intelligence advisory committee is a great first step to forge better collaboration between industry, government, and academia,” said Dean Garfield, the president of the lobbying group Information Technology Industry Council, according to The Hill.
