US Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration CIO joins Virtual Rehab advisory board

Donald Cox has joined the advisory board of Virtual Rehab, a Montreal, Canada-based organization that aims to reduce the re-incarceration rate through virtual reality-based educational programs.

Mr. Cox currently serves as the CIO of the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, a HHS agency. SAMHSA leads public health efforts to reduce substance abuse and mental illness in U.S. communities.

"Studies and statistics show jails are overcrowded and cost taxpayers millions," Mr. Cox said. "Alternative treatments in other forms have been proven to reduce recidivism. Virtual Rehab will push the boundaries of the possible and impact how and where we experience."
