North America has largest market share in global medical document management systems

North American hospitals and health systems represent the largest market for medical document management systems that eliminate paper-based processes and electronically manage patient information, according to a Persistence Market Research report.

Persistence Market Research found North America dominates the global medical document management market because of improved healthcare infrastructure and increased government funding for the industry. The U.S. houses the largest market in North America, trailed by Canada.

In Europe, Germany, France and the U.K. represent large shares in the medical document management systems market. India, China and Japan are anticipated to boast the fastest growing markets for medical document management systems in Asia, according to the report.

Government initiatives to implement healthcare IT systems in hospitals and health systems, as well as an increase in the number of hospitalization cases, are major growth factors driving the global medical document management systems market. Factors restraining market growth include lack of healthcare IT professionals and increasing data breaches in document management systems.

Major contributors in the market include 3M Company, McKesson Corp., Siemens, Hyland Software, Epic Systems Corp., Kofax, Toshiba Medical Systems Corp., Cerner Corp., Allscripts Healthcare Solutions and GE Healthcare.
