One of the pieces of legislation will require payers to cover any service offered via telehealth that is already covered via in-person consultation. The Nebraska Association of Health Underwriters, an insurance industry trade group, supports the proposed bill as it could help reduce physician visits’ costs.
The second bill will require Nebraska to join the Interstate Medical Licensure Compact. Thus far, 17 states have adopted the compact, which quickens the licensing process for physicians who want to practice in the member states.
The bills are facing some obstacles, however, including the cost of buying and maintaining the equipment necessary for telehealth services, according to the report.
