The attack occurred in July and was discovered on Aug. 2.
After conducting a thorough analysis, the FBI believes the data breach was led by a group of Russian hackers who briefly held the clinic’s server for ransom. They breached the personal information — including names, addresses, health information and social security numbers — of almost 58,000 patients.
“Unfortunately, we cannot say which patients specifically may have been affected by this data breach,” clinic physicians Willis Dabbs, MD, and David Coon, MD, wrote in a letter to patients.
To prevent further security issues, Urgent Care of Oxford is giving each of its patients a year of free credit monitoring through Equifax.
