The University of New Mexico in Albuquerque has expanded access to its neurology services for rural regions and small hospitals across the state with the use of telemedicine.

UNM hospitals’ partnership with Net Medical Xpress now allows UNM neurology specialists to offer their expertise at 13 locations statewide.

UNM specialists offer consultations with physicians, patients and families at the telemedicine sites, which will eventually double in number, according to UNM.

The telemedicine system allows neurologists to provide better advice on stroke care, prevents unnecessary transport to Albuquerque and gives smaller healthcare locations access to expertise that they might otherwise not have, according to a UNM news release.
