The University of Missouri School of Medicine in Columbia has received $3.9 million over five years from the Health Resources and Services Administration to establish the Center for Telehealth Research and Policy, or C-TRaP.
More than 20% of the U.S. population, including 30% of Missourians, live in rural areas and face limited access to care. The center will evaluate how telehealth is used in rural communities, identify care gaps and recommend policy changes, according to a Sept. 17 news release. Researchers will use artificial intelligence, remote patient monitoring, Medicaid data and Project ECHO to study care improvement strategies.
C-TRaP will collaborate with the university’s Sinclair School of Nursing, College of Health Professions and College of Engineering. It will also partner with researchers at the University of Mississippi Medical Center and Michigan State University to ensure findings are applicable across rural settings.
