Pharmacists in states affected by Hurricane Irma can visit Surescripts’ website to validate their eligibility and gain access to the Allscripts application. Once authorized, pharmacists must obtain patient consent to access a 12-month view of the patient’s medication history.

The initial partnership, announced Sept. 7, allowed pharmacists in Texas and Louisiana access to the service in the wake of Hurricane Harvey. The expanded collaboration will extend the service to pharmacists in Florida, Alabama, Georgia, North Carolina and South Carolina.

The collaboration was partially enabled by the federal government’s declaration of public health emergencies following Hurricanes Harvey and Irma, which granted providers increased flexibility to meet citizens’ emergency health needs and loosened some provisions of HIPAA.
