Senator Charles Schumer Introduces Bill to Increase EHR Incentives for Multi-Campus Hospitals

Democratic New York Senator Charles Schumer introduced the Electronic Health Record Incentives for Multi-campus Hospitals Act, which ensures that payment incentives for EHRs would be available to all qualified hospitals that are part of larger multi-campus hospital systems sharing a single provider number, according to a report by AHA News Now.

The legislation clarifies that EHR incentive payments under Medicare and Medicaid should go to each campus of a multi-campus hospital system consisting of a main provider hospital and one or more remote location hospitals. To balance the needs of both large and small systems, the bill gives them the choice of receiving base payments for each campus in addition to one per-discharge amount or one base payment with additional per-discharge amounts for each campus.
