A survey by Burning Glass Technologies found that while the number of health informatics positions is growing, the nation may face a shortage of health informatics workers.
The same survey analyzed the average advertised salary of seven health informatics roles, alongside the total number of job postings for the role in 2013.
In 2013, medical coders were in the most demand, with 24,270 total job postings, followed by clinical application developers (16,467), clinical analysts (8,968) and medical records and coding supervisors (8,508).
Here are the average advertised salaries for seven health informatics positions, presented from highest to lowest.
1. Clinical application developer: $79,038
2. Health information manager/director: $77,483
3. Medical records and coding supervisor: $75,273
4. Clinical analyst: $62,163
5. Medical coder: $50,023
6. Medical records clerk: $37,967
7. Health information technician: $33,845
