RelyMD, which is staffed by the Charlotte, N.C.-based physician group Wake Emergency Physicians, allows patients to receive after-hours consultations with a healthcare professional on a web browser, mobile app or phone call. RelyMD physicians are able to fill prescriptions, schedule follow-up visits and access patient medical records.
The service, which costs around $40, aims to help patients avoid time-consuming and expensive trips to an urgent-care clinic or hospital emergency room, which may cost more than $1,000, according to Triad Business Journal.
As of Dec. 1, 2016, Piedmont Health Services offers the RelyMD service to patients at its Scott Community Health Center location in Burlington, N.C., though it may be expanded to other locations in the future.
