Philips to move North American headquarters to Cambridge

Philips is planning to relocate its North American base from Andover, Mass., to Cambridge, Mass., by 2020, according to The Boston Globe.

The new site will combine Andover's innovation and commercialization units with research and development operations, which are already in a separate Cambridge hub. Specifically, the company has about 200 research employees stationed near its future Cambridge office, but hasn't yet decided whether they will be moved to the new campus.

About 2,000 employees will transition to the new office building, which is currently under construction. However, roughly 300 ultrasound system manufacturing workers will stay in one building at the company's Andover location.

If some employees elect not to make the move, the company may recruit new talent in Cambridge, Philips CEO Frans van Houten said, according to The Boston Globe.
