Alex Barker, PhD, of Chicago-based Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine, and Paul Fedak, MD, PhD, of Canada-based University of Calgary Cumming School of Medicine, will co-lead the five-year clinical research study. The research team will use a new real-time, 3-D blood flow visualization and tissue analysis technique to inform personalized treatments for bicuspid aortic valve patients.
“Not all BAV patients are the same, yet they are currently treated the same when it comes to timing and extent of surgery,” said Dr. Fedak. “Through this study we can give clinicians and surgeons the tools they need to create precise, individualized treatment plans for patients.”
