New app connects women to their midwives

After the Flood, a London-based design agency, launched 1-to-1, an app that enables women to communicate with their midwives.

The agency piloted the app at London-based Guy's and St. Thomas' Hospital's birth center. Women in the birth center can utilize the app to communicate with their midwives whenever they're in need of assistance or extra care. Patients are able to download 1-on-1 as soon as they're admitted to the birth center.

"Hospitals are busy, fast-paced places, and patients have a variety of needs, desires and anxieties. Patients do not always feel that their anxieties have been attended to on a personal basis 24 hours a day," said Dr. Daghni Rajasingam, head of obstetrics at Guy's and St. Thomas' Hospital and one of the initiators of the app. "That's why we developed 1-to-1; with it, women can get effective care when and how they need it."
