Rochester, Minn.-based Mayo Clinic has a new telemedicine strategy. By converging its emergency telemedicine practice, the health system hopes to standardize and strengthen its telemedicine services.

Previously, Mayo Clinic used multiple telemedicine vendors to deliver emergency telemedicine services, but by converging all services and practices, it seeks to create a scalable, standardized delivery model.

“By combining the breadth and depth of Mayo Clinic knowledge and expertise with a standardized technology across the enterprise, we will be able to create a comprehensive, integrated, multispecialty emergency telemedicine program,” said Bart Demaerschalk, MD, a Mayo Clinic neurologist and medical director of telemedicine services for the Mayo Clinic Center for Connected Care, in a statement.

The first telemedicine service lines to converge will be telestroke and teleneonatology, and the system plans to add more specialties in the future. The convergence will begin in late summer and continue through the early part of next year.
