Large Number of Users Continues to Cause Delays, Error Messages on Exchange Websites

Technical problems caused by a large number of potential enrollees persisted into a second day on the healthcare insurances exchange websites, launched Oct. 1 under the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act.

In the 34 states using exchanges run by the federal government and hosted on Healthcare.gov, users continued to experience long load times and error messages, reported The New York Times. HHS has attributed the slow speeds to an overwhelming number of users — by Wednesday afternoon, the site had 6.1 million unique visitors. An HHS official told the Times the government is "working with highly qualified experts to improve the system capacity" in the coming days.

Some state-run exchanges are continuing to experience technical issues as well. Exchanges in New York, Maryland and Kentucky all have experienced delays or malfunctions due to the number of users overwhelming the servers, according to the Times.
