Technology and management consulting company Accenture’s 2015 consumer engagement survey found 24 percent of consumers think wearable health devices are too complicated to use. Additionally, 22 percent said they were not set up properly and 21 percent said they do not work as advertised.
Overall, 83 percent of consumers said they had problems using “intelligent” devices. Accenture advised technology companies to create simpler out-of-the-box operation and drive consumer engagement to promote use. The report urged technology companies to prioritize these complaints to encourage early adopters, reasoning that word-of-mouth is an important marketing factor for technology and must be utilized to move toward mainstream use.
The report also highlighted consumer emphasis on trusting devices. One out of 10 consumers never share personal information online for fear it will be hacked, and 44 percent are wary of sharing their information online. The report, which included 24,000 consumers from 24 countries, noted people tend to have more trust in websites and companies they maintain a relationship with, such as a bank, and urged device developers to prioritize security.
