Intermountain, American Well partner up for $49 video visits

Salt Lake City-based Intermountain Healthcare joined forces with telemedicine provider American Well to create a mobile and web telemedicine service that will allow patients to connect with providers for live, on-demand video visits via the Internet.

The project, called Intermountain Connect Care is slated to launch in early 2016. Video visits will be available 24/7 and cost $49 per consultation.

"Connect Care is an opportunity for Intermountain to engage with patients and provider a new option that complements traditional healthcare," said Brent Wallace, MD, CMO of Intermountain. "It expands access to Intermountain's high-quality car, allowing patients more choice and access to care, regardless of time or location."

To begin, Connect Care will provide patients advice and treatment for low-acuity medical conditions, but Intermountain plans to eventually expand its telehealth strategy to include access to specialists, including dermatologists, psychiatrists and dieticians.

"At the heart of this collaboration is Intermountain's mission of helping people live the healthiest lives possible, and a strong desire to integrate online care with the continuum of care offered by Intermountain," Dr. Wallace said.
