Intel to acquire AI process producer Movidius

Santa Clara, Calif.-based Intel will acquire San Mateo, Calif.-based Movidius, which specializes in artificial intelligence and computer vision processors, according to Engadget.

Through the acquisition, Intel hopes to solidify its position in the AI and computer vision application space. Intel wants to use Movidius’ technology in particular to advance its RealSense camera technology.

Movidius had previously partnered with Google to create 3D space mapping technology for Google’s Project Tango devices, according to The Next Web.

The terms of the deal were not disclosed.
