Telehealth nurses and virtual nurses are the top two roles chief nursing officers are looking to fill in 2026, Wolters Kluwer reported.
The survey of 150 hospital and health system leaders defined telehealth nurses as providing clinical and real-time audio/video consultations and virtual nurses as delivering services via remote technology, according to an April 8 news release.
The top four nursing roles nursing leaders are aiming to hire in 2026 are, per the survey:
1. Telehealth nurses: 68%
2. Virtual nurses: 52%
3. Internal float pool nurses: 44%
4. Home health nurse coordinators: 40%
