St. Louis-based Ascension and Oracle are continuing their partnership to advance AI and other healthcare technologies, the Nashville Business Journal reported.

The 121-hospital system and software giant are connecting Ascension’s EHR to its enterprise resource planning system to lower costs, according to the Sept. 30 article.

“How do we as health systems get together and look at that very high-level macro picture and say healthcare is unsustainable?” Ascension Executive Vice President and CFO Saurabh Tripathi said Sept. 29 at the Nashville Health Care Council’s third annual Nashville Health Care Sessions, covered by the Business Journal. “In Ascension, we are blessed to have 600 data scientists who do a lot of data analytics, use … AI to guide us through where we should be going to reduce inefficiencies in our health system.”

Both Ascension and Oracle are expanding their work in healthcare AI as the industry embraces the technology to boost automation and support clinicians.

“If we’re not careful about how we use [AI] … we’re going to make bad healthcare,” warned Oracle Health chair David Feinberg, MD, at the meeting covered by the news outlet. “If you bring an AI agent into your health system, you should treat it like it’s a new employee. It should be onboarded; it should know the culture.”
