HIMSS, Bisk Education and USF Health’s Morsani College of Medicine in Tampa, Fla., conducted a survey on the health informatics profession. More than 400 respondents from 42 U.S. states provided insight. Here are five things the survey revealed about this job market.
1. Half of respondents reported earning an annual salary exceeding $130,000.
2. The highest portion of respondents (140) indicated being “very satisfied” with their health IT career. One hundred and twenty respondents said they were “somewhat satisfied,” and 80 said they were neither satisfied nor dissatisfied.
3. Eighty-three percent of respondents said they see potential growth opportunities in their career over the next five years.
4. The survey also found health informatics professionals with additional credentials have more than double the chance to be in the highest salary bracket (greater than $130,000 a year).
5. Job titles greatly vary in the health informatics field; 303 of the 404 respondents said they have a unique job title.
