Central Illinois Health Information Exchange has added 30 long-term care facilities into its network since late 2013.

The inclusion of long-term facilities has several benefits for member hospitals. The hospitals now get patients’ lab and radiology reports more quickly, and the HIE facilitates the exchange of data necessary at admission and discharge. Additionally, hospitals looking to meet meaningful use stage 2 can demonstrate their ability to exchange transition of care documents through the HIE.

The inclusion of these facilities also makes hospitals better prepared to succeed in accountable care and other risk-sharing payment models, according to Joy Duling, executive director of CIHIE.
