IBM triples number of blockchain patents in single year

As a leader in blockchain, IBM has tripled the number of blockchain patents in the U.S. since last year, holding more than 100 active patents, according to Cointelegraph.

IBM surpasses other technology giants, including Intel and Microsoft, when it comes to blockchain.

"In just one year the number of IBM blockchain patents has grown by 300 percent. When one of the largest companies in the world spends so much on their resources on developing a blockchain department, this tells a lot about the market potential," said Yuval Halevi, co-founder of blockchain public relations company GuerillaBuzz, reports Cointelegraph.

IBM does, however, have international competition. Currently, China holds more blockchain patents than the U.S. Of the 1,590 blockchain patents filed in the U.S., IBM has filed 143.
