Hospitals Achieve HIMSS Analytics Stage 6 in EMR Adoption

Three Houston-based Memorial Hermann Healthcare System hospitals — Memorial Hermann Katy, Sugar Land and Southeast — have reached Stage 6 of seven stages of the HIMSS Analytics EMR adoption model, developed in 2005 as a method for evaluating the progress and impact of electronic medical record systems in hospitals, according to a Healthcare IT News report.

Hospitals and healthcare organizations can reach Stage 6 of the HIMSS EMR adoption model by demonstrating significant advancements in their almost fully deployed EMR systems for patient safety, clinician support, clinician recruitment and competitive marketing. Hospitals at this stage in the model are also shown to have made significant improvements in patient care through the use of an EMR.

The seven stages range from the having no EMR installed at all — Stage 0 — to no longer needing paper charts to deliver and manage patient care due to use of clinical data warehouses and clinical information transactions via health IT solutions — Stage 7.
