The statement, which was developed by the HIMSS Nursing Informatics Committee and is in alignment with other nursing organizations, seeks to clarify and recommend how the nurse’s role, particularly nurse informaticists, can serve as leaders in transforming healthcare through the use of health IT.
HIMSS’ recommendations include partnering with nurse executives to lead technology changes that improve healthcare, developing an informatics department, creating a chief nursing information officer role and promoting continued education.
