Scott Seidelmann, CEO of Candescent Health in Waltham, Mass.: Take the mammography for example, which is one of the most common and routine scans that a radiologist performs. While there are a number of radiologists who are subspecialists in this particular scan, only 40 percent of mammograms are actually being read by a specialist in the field. To add to the problem, only 18 percent of mammographer’s are actually working in their specialty at any given time. If we truly want to transform the way our industry delivers care, then we need to enable the digitization of our healthcare delivery. Through digital technology, we will ensure the right patient case is being delivered to the right doctor at the right time, regardless of where that provider is located. We are in an industry where expertise matters. We need to be effectively utilizing our expertise if we want to reduce errors and enhance patient care delivery, and the only way to go that is through digital technology.
