Health IT coalition voices support for Dr. John Fleming’s HHS appointment

The coalition Health IT Now expressed an interest in working with former U.S. Rep. John Fleming, MD, R-La., who recently accepted a position as HHS deputy assistant secretary for health technology.

Health IT Now is a coalition of patient groups, provider organizations, health payers and health IT companies, including athenahealth, McKesson, Oracle and Teladoc. In a statement, Health IT Now Executive Director Robert James Horne said Dr. Fleming’s background as a physician and former Congress member gave him unique insight.

“Dr. Fleming has expressed enthusiasm for ‘taking down the barriers that are preventing innovation,'” Mr. Horne said. “Health IT Now looks forward to working with him and his team to allow for the greater embrace of technology as a means to not only improve patient outcomes but to also bring down costs.”
