Google's New Smartwatch to Include Health Tracking Capabilities

Google is poised to beat rival Apple into the wearables market, announcing this week the company will begin selling a smartwatch running the Android OS later this year.

One of the features of the smartwatch will be the ability to monitor the user's health and fitness. According to a report in The Wall Street Journal, the sensors will initially be similar to those in fitness trackers like Fitbit or Jawbone.

Android's open developer platform is likely to encourage app developers to create health apps that take advantage of the smartwatch's ability to track user movement and other metrics.
