Google's Cloud is Now HIPAA-Friendly

Google now supports business associate agreements for users of the Google Cloud Platform to encourage HIPAA-covered developers and organizations to use the service.

Under HIPAA, covered entities are required to have BAAs for every contractor, subcontractor, vendor or other associate that handles protected patient information. By offering BAA support, Google has made using its cloud service a more attractive, compliant option for healthcare organizations.

Last year, Google began supporting BAAs for its Google Apps customers, paving the way for healthcare organizations to use its popular Gmail, Calendar and Drive apps.
