Google Offers BAA to Make Gmail, Drive, Calendar HIPAA Compliant

Google has begun offering business associate agreements to HIPAA-covered entities who use Gmail, Google Drive, Google Calendar or other Google Apps, allowing protected health information to be used or stored on these platforms.

“We’ve started offering Business Associate Agreements to help our customers who need to comply with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act while using Google Apps,” says a Google spokesperson.

HIPAA-covered organizations should not use Google Apps without signing a BAA first, according to Google.
