The announcement of the collaboration comes right on the heels of the newly formed Alphabet, the parent holding company that Google cofounders Larry Page and Sergey Brin formed to better manage and organize their digital empire.
Life Sciences now operates under Alphabet’s domain instead of Google’s. The new partnership with DexCom focuses on developing a miniature diabetes sensor, no larger than the size of a bandage, which will monitor blood sugar levels constantly instead of through repeated finger pricks, according to a Forbes report.
This is the second diabetes-related project Life Sciences has taken on. The company is already working with pharmaceutical giant Novartis to develop a smart contact lens that measures blood sugar levels through tear fluid on the eyeball.
