IBM to acquire Merge for $1B; Epic's Judy Faulkner among the richest people in tech; Cerner's revenue climbs while profit falls — 7 health IT key notes

Here are seven recent news updates on key health IT companies.

1. IBM plans to acquire Merge Healthcare, a medical imaging management platform, for $1 billion. 

2. MEDITECH's revenue for the second quarter fell 16 percent to $117.14 million, and profits fell 27 percent to $17.25 million.

3. Judy Faulkner, founder and CEO of Epic, was named among Forbes' "100 Richest People in Tech" list.

4. FirstHealth of the Carolinas, based in Pinehurst, N.C., plans to transition to Epic's EHR over the next two years.

5. General Electric launched a new platform-as-a-service: Predix Cloud.

6. Baptist Health South Florida, based in Coral Gables, chose Cerner's EHR and population health management platforms to implement across the system's hospitals, physician offices and outpatient locations.

7. In the second quarter of 2015, Cerner's revenue climbed 32 percent to $1.13 billion, but earnings fell 11 percent to $115 million.
