Express Scripts joins 4 other providers to test blockchain

Healthcare technology solutions provider Nasco is teaming up with Express Scripts and three other providers to form a blockchain coalition, known as Coalesce Health Alliance.

Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan and Horizon Healthcare Services are the other organizations to join the collaboration, which seeks to evaluate blockchain's use to improve data exchanges.

The goal is to test blockchain's efficiency and accuracy when exchanging membership data between the Blue Cross ecosystem.

Currently, Coalesce views blockchain as a technology distributor and enabler of business networks. The collaborative organization executed an Alpha Pilot project that demonstrated a healthcare distributed accumulators blockchain solution in a cloud environment.

The pilot projected was aimed at addressing challenges health plans experience, such as managing member accumulations, identifying members, working with incomplete data and running into inconsistent integration formats.
