Larry Ellison, co-founder, chair and chief technology officer of Oracle, said he believes his company can take on EHR rival Epic due to its size and integrated approach.
“We decided to go into the medical business against Epic, believing that we could solve much more of the problem because we’re much bigger than they are,” Mr. Ellison said in a Sept. 9 earnings call. “And by the way, we’re much bigger than Workday and … ServiceNow. And we’re solving a larger portion of the problem.”
Besides an EHR, Oracle also offers enterprise resource planning and customer relationship management platforms, he noted. (Epic is building its own ERP tool and has a CRM product as well.)
“So the customers don’t have to do all that system integration across multiple vendors,” Mr. Ellison said in the call. “We can just build a suite where all the pieces are engineered to fit together. I think we have tremendous advantages in the application space.”
He added that Oracle also has “tremendous advantages in the AI inferencing space,” using its massive amounts of customer data.
