According to a spokesperson for Gov. O’Malley, Maryland’s system will be the first in the nation to have 100 percent of its hospitals participating in such a program.

Through this program, hospitals will be able to track the spread of diseases, such as the H1N1 flu, and slow the progression of the disease, according to the report.
