Epic founder and CEO Judy Faulkner’s wealth has expanded exponentially since she started the EHR company in a Wisconsin basement apartment in the late 1970s.
Ms. Faulkner has built Epic into an industry powerhouse since its humble beginnings. The company continues to grow its EHR market share lead, now covering more than half of U.S. acute care hospital beds.
Her net worth has grown in turn. In 2012, for instance, the company had $1.2 billion in revenue and 127 million patients using its EHR; today, those numbers are $6.7 billion and 325 million, respectively.
Ms. Faulkner has pledged to give the vast majority of her fortune away to charity. Every year, she sells about $100 million worth of her nonvoting Epic shares back to employees, donating the proceeds to her foundation.
