Partnering to use the same EHR system will allow the health clinics to securely share their mutual patients’ health records. An estimated 80 percent of Christie Clinic patients have also been patients at Carle Clinic, said William Pierce, MD, CMO at Christie Clinic, according to the report.
The EHR integration project has been underway for the past year, and once it’s completed, individuals who are patients at both clinics will see information about appointments and medical visits for both Carle Clinic and Christie Clinic when they log on to Epic’s patient portal MyChart.
“Being on the same platform will make it much more seamless,” Dr. Pierce said. “The patient will never have to fill out a form to say, ‘Please send my information from one place to another,’ or ‘Now that I’ve been here, please forward my information across.'”
