Noblesville, Ind.-based Riverview Health’s plan to upgrade its EHR system led to a broader management agreement with Fort Wayne, Ind.-based Parkview Health, leaders from both organizations told The Hamilton County Reporter in a Dec. 4 story.
Riverview is set to transition to Parkview’s instance of the Epic EHR in February 2026 — a move officials say will give clinicians more complete access to patient records and strengthen care coordination. Because smaller systems cannot independently purchase Epic, Riverview began looking for a sponsoring organization and entered discussions with Parkview, which supports other providers through its Epic Community Connect program.
Those conversations evolved into a managed services agreement that took effect Nov. 3, formalizing an interim arrangement that had been in place since July. Under the deal, Parkview is managing Riverview’s hospital operations and associated locations, including three emergency and urgent care centers and Westfield Hospital. Parkview has also placed an on-site COO for several months and is supplying a CFO while Riverview searches for a CEO.
William Kirsch, MD, vice chair of Riverview’s board, said the EHR transition is a vital first step as physicians increasingly rely on comprehensive patient data — including from out-of-state providers.
Dr. Kirsch added that Riverview’s previous Epic sponsor, a hospital in St. Louis, offered limited engagement. Parkview’s willingness to support Riverview’s long-term success was a key factor in pursuing the new agreement, he said.
Both organizations emphasized to the Reporter that Riverview remains a county-owned hospital and that the agreement is not a merger or acquisition. Community members and staff will continue to see Riverview operate under its own name.
