Epic named four executives who will take on expanded responsibilities following President Sumit Rana’s departure, according to a statement from Founder and CEO Judy Faulkner shared with Becker’s.

Ms. Faulkner said Seth Howard, Mark Lipsky, Erv Walter and Garrett Adams are among a small group of leaders who will be adding to their responsibilities as the company moves forward without Mr. Rana.

The statement did not detail the additional responsibilities these individuals would be taking on.

“Over our nearly 50-year history, Epic has excelled at identifying and growing strong leaders from within,” Ms. Faulkner said. “With Sumit’s recent news, a small group including Seth Howard, Mark Lipsky, Erv Walter, and Garrett Adams will be adding to their responsibilities. We also have an outstanding group of seasoned people throughout Epic whose leadership is critical to the company’s success.”

Mr. Howard serves as Epic’s executive vice president of research and development. Mr. Lipsky, Mr. Adams and Mr. Walter serve as senior vice president of research and development at Epic.

Mr. Rana, who has served as Epic’s president since 2024, announced July 3 that he will step down Aug. 14 after more than two decades with the company. He said in an email to staff that he is leaving following the death of his father to spend more time with his family and support his mother, who lives in India.

Mr. Rana’s departure leaves a notable gap at the top of the nation’s largest EHR vendor. He was widely viewed as a potential successor to Ms. Faulkner, who is 82.
