Epic launches new native telehealth offering

Epic will embed a new telehealth platform into its software that will allow clinicians to launch a virtual visit with patients directly within the EHR.

The new telehealth solution is a web application hosted by Epic and uses Twilio’s programmable video application programming interface. Twilio’s cloud-based platform allows Epic clients to perform video visits, access patient history and update clinical documentation within the EHR during a visit.

The solution is built using the same integration framework as other App Orchard vendors, and Epic clients can still choose to use any other telehealth solutions available through the app store, according to Epic. The App Orchard serves as an online marketplace for third-party developers to offer pre-approved apps that run on Epic’s software infrastructure.
