Louisville, Ky.-based Baptist Health has saved more than 600 hours on manual review over the past nine months after adopting Epic’s Aura platform, the American Medical Association reported.
Aura connects health systems to specialty labs and device manufacturers, replacing previously manual processes such as filling out and faxing paper orders. For Baptist Health Medical Group, the solution has also contributed to a 45% rise in at-home colon cancer screening tests and cut order and placement time for cardiac monitors by 70%, according to the March 9 article.
“This wasn’t about IT wanting to chase the next exciting thing,” Brett Oliver, MD, chief medical information officer of Baptist Health, told the AMA. “It was about our physicians needing reliable, consistent results to care for patients safely.”
The health system integrated ordering and results delivery into Epic for six specialty labs — Caris, Exact Sciences, Foundation Medicine, Guardant, Natera and Tempus — and iRhythm’s cardiac monitoring patch, Zio, per the article.
