Alameda Health System board of trustees approves Epic EHR

Oakland, Calif.-based Alameda Health System’s board of trustees unanimously approved a $200 million EHR overhaul that will enhance care across the system, the organization announced Thursday.

Alameda selected Epic for its new system, noting the EHR’s ability to provide timely and complete patient information across all facilities could result in better clinical decisions, fewer medical errors or duplications, and more efficient care delivery.

The new system will allow medical staff to access patient and clinical information in real time; increase visibility into lab and test results for patients and providers; feature automatic alerts to warn of allergies to medications; and enable information sharing with providers across and outside the system.

“Approval of the project, one of the most significant investments made by Alameda Health System, illustrates the Board’s commitment to promoting high-quality access to affordable care for all communities in Alameda County,” said Alameda CEO Delvecchio Finley. “As patients gain greater access to their medical records, health information and more convenient service through this system, they will be empowered to manage their own care, ultimately becoming champions of their health and wellness.”
