Eligible employees will undergo genomic screening to assess how effectively their current statin medications are controlling their cholesterol levels. Healthcare providers will be able to use the test results to personalize and optimize each patient’s medication regimen based on their genetic profiles and other health data.
“We firmly believe that the field of genomics holds unlimited possibilities in improving our overall health and well-being,” Susan Johnston, the medical center’s vice president of human resources, said in a Jan. 28 news release. “This employee program is strictly voluntary, but we believe the benefits can be impactful to the overall health of our employees. Our intention is to help improve the overall long-term effectiveness of the healthcare of our employees, and provide them and their physicians with information to make the best possible healthcare decisions.”
The program was developed in partnership with HudsonAlpha’s Health Alliance, an initiative to provide customized genomic health screening programs to hospitals, health systems, physician networks and other healthcare employers, Devin Absher, PhD, HudsonAlpha’s director of genomic health, said in the release.
